Recently the internal modem in my system failed as xp pro
began to report a code 39 error. Uninstalling and
reinstalling the drivers (the modem is a ess 56h pi) did
not work as the error report kept coming up. I could not
connect to the internet. I decided to reinstall the XP Pro
in case the registry was corrupt. Now the reinstallation of
XP pro has seized up. It goes as far as "installing
windows -registering components" with about 13 minutes
left. The error message is "unregmp2.exe entry point not
found. The procedure entry point could not be located
GetUIMS in the dynamic link libary MSDART.DLL"
Is there any computer wiz out there that can advise how
best to overcome my problem without resorting to a format
process?

I can't offer any help, just to let you know that I ran
into the exact same problem trying to upgrade from Win XP
Home to Win XP Pro. I'm now trying to get back to where I
started and I get the same error in the Win XP Home
running the Repair option. I'm guessing there's bug in
the Upgrade/Repair script. So far the only thing that has
worked is doing a complete install, which wipes out all my
previous setting and programs.
