install error

I am recieving an error when I am attempting to install
Windows XP Pro (I already had XP Home, but need to
upgarde). I am getting the error entitled "unregmp2.exe -
Entry POint Not Found" The message goes on to say: the
procedure entry point Get IUMS could not be located in the
dynamic link library MSDART.DLL

What does this all mean and what do I need to do about it?

Julie;
I also just upgraded to XP Pro from XP and received the
same error. XP Pro appeared to work fine until I tried my
internet connection. I've been unable to reestablish my
DSL connection. MY ISP (SBC) tried to help but felt the
problem is in my PC (I agree).

I don't know what to do. I was going to email Microsoft
with this question but they ask for the Product ID, which
I do not have here, because I had to go to the library to
use the internet while I searched for the answer.

If I find a solution I'll post a reply.

How are you installing xp pro, thru explorer,if so that isnt the recommended
way to install pro,its ok for upgradeing 95,98,or ME, but not xp.You need
to install pro cd,exit the info page, restart computer,or if home is corrupted
simply install cd,boot from xp cd (you might need to enable this in the
BIOS),
then at info page select, install xp,new copy, delete the partition, create one,
then let xp format the hd and install. This is a clean install wipeing out
home.

Thank you for the info - I will try it, but I do believe I
was installing from the CD. But I will start over doing
what you recommended. I have found a few support pages
that are close to the problem that I am experiencing, but
not quite. I have tried all of their suggestions and I
still have not made progress. Infact I am getting more
errors - in the "my computer" area and I can no longer
access the internet through my dial up.
Let me know Bill, if you find out anything more. Thanks
guys.
