xp pro on sata drive D:

Hi,

I have been using a 200MD sata drive for my primary C: and D: drives as my
ata drive is too small. I set my bios to see the sata drive as the primary
drive and have no trouble with Win 2000 Pro on this C: drive but I can't get
Windows XP Pro to install on this D: partition - it tells me that I have to
put it on my ata drive.

I've checked all the M/S product sheets I can find on their site and nothing
tells me that this can't be done. has anyone here done this or know what
else I can try?

thanks in advance, rob

When booting to xp cd,press F6,install SATA drivers, after resume to xp cd boot
screen,select recovery,press enter key for password,then type:DiskPart In
DiskPart, delete the partition(s) you dont want xp to install to,then you
can/could
create one,then press ESC key,then type:EXIT Reboot to xp cd,press F6,then
install xp.XP should install to the partition you want because the other(s)
are
raw, those can be formatted in xp once its installed. However D: on install
will
become C: by default.

You have one 200MB SATA drive with a partition C and D.
partition C is a primary partition
is D a primary partition?

Is the SATA controller on MB or a PCI card?

Boot up with XP CD, press F6 to install SATA drivers. Then you can install
XP on D partition.
