I could not do a group reply to your answer as I am getting a blank window
with a checkbox and 3 blank buttons when I try, but I can post new...


D is also a primary partition, and the controller is on the MB. I set the
bios to see the sata as the 1st drive and the ata as the 2nd. Also, the sata
bios setup is set to 'auto' - if I set it to 'combined' I can install XP to
the sata drive but cannot see the ata or floppy drive ???

Since I'm not that familiar SATA, let's start with the ATA removed. Also, I
don't know the relevance to it as far as booting up computer.

So set SATA BIOS however and boot only with SATA drive. Then do normal
install. install SATA drivers to "D" partition and install XP.
Just like you did when installing on "C" partition.
