XP-Pro native CD burning s/w missing

I would appreciate any help in trying to find out what happened to the native
inbuilt CD burning s/w. The drive properties does NOT have a 'Recording'
page.

Right clicking on the CD rw drive produces a menu WITHOUT a 'Format' entry.

I've installed Sonic's MyDVD suite with DLA, but DLA does not work either.

Removing the DLA application and re-installing it did nothing.

DLA installation may well have turned off the inbuilt method (they are
going to fight) and uninstalling not turned it back on. At Control
Panel - Admin Tools - Services, look for IMAPI CD Burning, and check if
it has Started. If not, d-click it, set Startup type to Automatic;
Apply. Then exit form it and reboot. That should bring the Recording
page back if the system accepts your burner (and there are some that for
unspecified reasons just do not work with it).

If DLA is installed, there should be a DLA page in the drives properties
with a box to check to 'Enable DLA on your drive'; after which a
r-click on the drive will have an '\Use with DLA' in the menu (to click
to check) and a Format item as well

IMAPI CD Burning is/has been set to Automatic and is Started.

DLA page in drive Properties DOES have 'Use with DLA' checked; however, the
right click menu DOES NOT have a 'Format' option.

The CD/DVD rw drive works fine with all other Sonic RecordNow and MyDVD
applications. It has also previously worked fine with Roxio DirectCD/Easy CD
5.3.2.34 (including disc formatting) which was removed to install the full
Sonic suite.
