My computer used to startup fine and logon with the
windows logon screen. Now it comes up and tries to logon
to a domain. the computer is not connected to any domain,
and will not boot in safe mode without the classic logon
screen coming up, when you try to logon it says the
domain "xxxx" is not available at this time, I have no
clue as to how it joined this domain

Hi,

I would try logging onto the machine locally. When you get to the logon
screen and see the Username, Password, and Domain fields, click the
drop-down on the Domain field. You should see the local machine name on
the list there as well (this is true of any workstation that is a domain
member). Then put in Administrator for the user (or another admin user)
and the correct password. This should allow you to logon locally.

Once logged on, you can change the workstation from a domain to a workgroup
by going into the Properties of 'My Computer'. On the Computer Name tab,
click the 'Change...' button, and then switch the radio button in the
'Member of' section from Domain to Workgroup. Enter the Workgroup name you
use and then OK your way out. You will need to reboot once this is done.
