I have read several threads all over the internet and so far haven't found
anything that worked for me. Here is what's happening.
I have 3 accounts on my XP Pro system.
1) Administrator account from XP install
2)C n L (admin rights) (user which hangs on loading personal settings)
3)Chad (admin rights)
When I start xp it loads up to the windows user login screen, but it never
displays the actual user accounts. It just has the blue screen with the hour
glass and it never goes further unles I hit ctrl-alt-del several times and
then I can login with the Chad account or Administrator account (xp install
default Administrator) These both load with no problem. It is just the C n L
account that says "loading personal settings"
This error all started after I was logged into the C n L account and went to
shut it down and it hung on shutdown on the win xp screen that said "Windows
Is shutting down" Last time this account worked I installed a business card
creator program. I have uninstalled it now.
I tried creating a new account and copying the C n L profile data to the new
account "Chad". I followed the steps at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811151 I encountered a problem. I was
attempting this copying while logged into the xp default install
Administrator account (so I should have access to every file on the system
theoretically) Well I don't. I can't view the contents of "C:\Documents
and Settings\C n L\" When I double click the folder it simply says Access
Denied.
I also set the value in the registry to automatically clear the page file
after logoff/shutdown
I CAN'T AFFORD TO LOOSE THE DATA IN THIS PROFILE. IT CONTAINS ALL MY
BUSINESS DATA!
I am simply puzzled as to why the folder is unaccessible. I thought the
Administrator account could access anything. I am at this point updated my
virus def. file to scan for viruses.
I read something about using MSCONFIG to solve it, but don't see how that
works.
I would love anyone's help.
