XP Pro keeps forgetting USB webcam

I have a Vimicro USB web cam installed and working fine.

The problem is that every few days my PC (XP Pro SP2 all updates)
forgets the cam and on start up asks for the driver CD as it says it
has found new hardware. Sure enough when I check, the web cam is not
showing on the system.

If I just load the CD it won't install. I have to unplug and plug in
again then reinstall the driver and all is well....... until a few
days later.

Any help appreciated.

I wish that simply saying "update your USB webcam driver" would be an easy
solution. But the Vimicro company does NOT post their drivers. The only thing
they mention is sending an email asking for the new driver to:

(e-mail address removed)

Ask for the current Windows XP Pro driver, and give them the specific model
number.

Oddly, in some docs I read re: usb devices. They say to plug your usb
device into every usb port and install drivers.
