WEBCAM USB BIOS PROBLEM

Whenever the PC goes on standby or shuts down, then powers up again, the
system does not recognise the webcam. I have an Intel board and chipset. I
have contacted the manufacturer of the cam on two occassions and they claim
that the only way to solve the problem is to change the IRQs. I have 6 USB
ports on board and everything works except the cam. Someone else suggested to
upgrade the BIOS. I have had the run around on the Intel site, indentified my
motherboard and chipset but there is no way I can sort this out. Can anyone
please assist with a positive solution to this problem.

From the sounds of it, at SOME point you get the system to recognize
it, right? Then if the computer goes on standby or shuts down, that
recognition is lost. Right?

What do you do that causes the system to recognize it?

Open Device Manager, open the properties on each USB port, in turn,
click the Power tab, and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this
device to save power".

Sorry Uncle Grumpy, I left out the most importamt comment. The only way the
cam works is to unplug it (after bootup) and re-plug it. It then works. When
powering down, the recognition is lost.

Have you checked at the camera manufacturer for known issues? Some devices
simply are not compatible with Standby or Hybernation.

Ralfg thks. As mentioned in orignal thread, I have contacted Logitech in the
Netherlands on two occassions and they claim it's not the cam. It has to do
with the USB or IRQs settings.

Considering that it is difficult if not impossible to get XP to change
device IRQs, that advice from Logitech sounds a bit like a runaround.
You can see in XP's System Information which devices are sharing the IRQ
with your USB controller(s). I have 6 other devices sharing an IRQ with one
of my USB controllers and whatever I tried XP always put them back together
on the same IRQ.

Here is a page from Logitech US describing computer chipsets that can cause
your exact problem and some possible fixes. Intel isn't supposed to be one
of the problematic ones. In case the link doesn't work the article has
Answer ID 834, from the Logitech US Troubleshooting site. Since the chipset
is Intel it may end up that the last suggestion (an add-in USB card) on the
page will be the one you need.
