XP Pro Installation Prob Blue Screen

I am upgrading operating systems to XP Pro from Win 98
SE. My desire is to install dual operating systems. I
started setup; it copied the files and started to reboot
my system. I got a message "Setup is investigating your
computer hardware configuration" followed by a "Blue"
screen with the words "Windows Setup" in the upper left
hand corner of the display. The system stalled at this
point. Any suggestion as to what is causing the system to
stall and possible resolution?

Thanks

Hi,

I would try the following:

1) Unplug all non-essential hardware (e.g. Soundcard) so
that you run setup with the bare minimum of hardware (e.g.
motherboard, RAM, CPU, Memory, Video Card, CD player)

If you successfully install XP then simply switch it off,
add hardware back again and let XP detect it.

2) Upgrade your motherboard to the latest BIOS version.

This can solve a lot of problems like this. Go to the
manufacturer of your motherboard and look for the correct
BIOS file and instructions. Be careful to get the correct
file for the correct version of your motherboard
(sometimes there are different BIOS files for different
motherboard versions).

Regards,

Tim
