I had the same error today when I was doing a clean install (on a brand new
hard drive), I think it was the damn Blast worm, because I was already
infected when I started Windows for the first time, do you have permanent
connection and it was connected while you was installing Windows? (i.e.
Cablemodem, it's always connected) that worm auto infects you if your system
is vulnerable (Win XP without the fixes) when you're online. In my case I
got that error but the installation was succesful anyway, could you get into
Windows?
If so, search for "msblast.exe", and check on the task manager if you have
that process running.

off system restore before installing it)
