Im trying to install xp pro on a new computer and it keeps coming
up with a blue screen with error message 'irql not less or equal'.
What could be the problem?
Remove all hardware non-essential to the installation. Disable it in the
BIOS if need be.
You do not need a sound card to install Windows XP.
You do not necessarily need a Network Card to install Windows XP.
You do need a motherboard, power, memory, hard disk drive, *maybe* a CD
drive (at least some way to get the XP files to the hard disk drive), a
video card would be good, monitor, keyboard..
But you really don't need that modem..
Or that printer hooked up..
The camera and USB thumb drive and ZIP disk and floppy drive - those can all
be unhooked..
In other words - minimalize what you have connected - see if that helps you
get past the initial installation. The error you got is usual a driver
issue - if you install with the bare necessities - you are more likely to be
able to get past that and then later solve the driver issue.
