XP Pro How do I replace a Network Adapter (Sys 32\Drivers\raspti.

I get Code 39 on startup and a Code 28 for the Direct Parallel Properties
(The drivers for this device are not installed). The Hardware Update Wizard
failed with and without using the original installation CD. The Device
Instance ID is ROOT\MS_PTIMINIPORT\0000. I still do not know what it is
supposed to "drive," or where to find a replacement to install. Is it for a
peripheral device or is it integral to my system?

When my system is powered off for more than 24 hours, I go through this and
the OS will not open. Control-alt-delete nearly always gets me up and
running, but it is slow. Twice recently, the mouse cursor was not been
operational on startup. Reboot required a power cutoff. Operation is
sluggish and INet crashes often.
Are these issues related?
My system is custom, using an Intel Processor.
Thanks for any advice.

You may be infected with a Virus. According to the symptoms you
describe. Do you have a remote connection with another computer??

No, Rich, there is not a remote connection with another computer. However,
my husband's laptop is connected thru a wireless modem. We're transitioning
to individual Blackberry phone modems instead of cable, so I'm not sure how
often the cable & wireless connection is used, now.
I have virus and firewall protection up the yazoo. So much so, I've
disabled my Norton Internet Security firewall. I thought the multiple
firewalls were causing the performance delays & Inet freezes.
I've upgraded my printer drivers, so that does not seem to be the problem,
either.
This problem has been occurring for about 2 years but frequently of late.
If the computer is powered off for 3-7 days, it's almost guaranteed to
happen. The mouse cursor non-loading was a recent surprise.
Thanks for your reply...any more thoughts such as how to find such a virus?
