xp pro fails to load

I am running xp pro on athlone 2400, 1 gig ram, oodles of disk space. All
goes well in power-up until just after the windows logo, then no picture. I
can hear the system completing the power-up, but cannot see it. None of the
safe mode options work. Could VgaSave be corrupted? As I have posted before,
VgaSave blocks my Nvidia GeForce fx 5600 card, so what can I do? Help would
be much appreciated.

Yes, this is very likely a video card/driver issue. Is it too late for a
reformat?
You may want to "repair" the installation.
Sometimes it has to do with too high a resolution being chosen.
If you can, reduce the resolution on your monitor and/or make sure the
driver you are using is ok and correct.
If you do a reinstall, the video ought to be the standard vga driver
initially.
Also, I'm not sure what type of motherboard, etc you are using, but make
sure your chipset/motherboard drivers are installed before the video.

Thanks for the input Scott. I booted to the windows cd and did a repair job
(I think) but it didn't bring my desktop back into view.
