shortcut issues

T

tim!

hey guys!
I have a bit of an issue with windows xp that has been
bugging me for a while...

for some reason whenever i try and make a shortcut on the
desktop (or anywhere else on the hdd) to one of my cd-
roms, the shortcut always sais "missing shorcut; windows
is search for g:\ to locate the file yourself click
browse" yada yada

now its not that bigger deal, because you can always go
into my computer and get into the cd from there....
but its a nuisance none the less ....
i have been trying all sorts of different tricks but
nothing seems to make it work as it should... i have this
problem on one other of my computers ... but all the
other ones i look after seem unaffected...

incase it helps... ill give you my specs:

athlon xp 2400+ [running @ xp2700+ 166/166(DDR 333mhz)

windows xp pro (with sp1)
all windows updates bar nvidia updates (i do them myself
