Help! Display goes blank on boot up...xp pro

D

Doz

H all,
Running windows XP pro with all the latest updates as of today.
On boot up the display goes blank after the splash screen... Windows
continues to boot normally as I can hear the startup sounds etc. and I'm
able to use the "power off" facility when I press the power button.

The monitor is just blank and the lights indicate a signal present.. just
black.

If I boot windows with the display off then all is well.. I just power it on
after startup sounds.

Video card is an Asus GeForce fx 5200 with 256megs.
Tried Asus drivers and Nvidia reference drivers. Same result.

Any ideas?
It's driving me nuts!

Regards,

Doz

You might have your display settings set out of range for your monitor.
Boot into safe mode by pushing F8 just before windows starts to load. The
go in and lower your display settings, then reboot.

Nope... as I said.. the display works fine after I power it on when the
system has already loaded.

It's just if the display is on during boot.. no go.

So, during POST when it counts the RAM, it is good. Then as soon as Windows
begins to load or right after, it goes blank.

It is possible the Nvidia driver is having problems reading your Monitor's
EDID.

Do you recieve a send error reports as if your system had crashed after
booting without your monitor attached?

What Brand/Model is your monitor?

Are you currently running Nvidia's latest 53.03 driver
(http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_53.03)?

Thanks,

Lance
