why cant boot up in normal mode?

Problem started when I overloaded the C: drive but since then I remove most
of the files and now the free space is about 36% from 6%. Then I did the
defragmentation, clear all the temp files, TIF etc and the pc wil not reboot
in normal mode.

When I power on, it will sort of retart it self then on the next reboot, it
will goes to the Safe mode menu. And if I choose Safe mode, it will goes to
desktop. If I choose other options it will just have a black screen, not even
the cursor blinking and the monitor light will remains orange instead of
green.
The same situation exist, if when I boot up and press F8 it will goes to the
Advance Boot menu and will go to desktop if the safe mode option is chosen.

When I look in the Device Manager, the display adapter will show as Nvidia
GeForce FX 5200 (Microsoft Corporation). No questionn mark etc.

Btw, its the same if I uncheck all the boxes in msconfig. I have done the
chkdsk /r and the situation remains unchange.

Does that means there is sosmething wrong with my graphic card? Thanks.

you may have accidentally
removed some files that
caused the fault.

although there are several
methods available to overcome
the boot up error, i suggest
to perform a repair installation
with your windows cd.

this seems to be a good
method, because if you
accidentally removed the
wrong files, then the
setup cd will replace them.

here are the instructions:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx

incidentally, keep in mind
that you may temporarily
remove your graphics board
if the repair seems to stall.

but maybe not...

There is no on-board graphic. Just try to resit the graphic card, the same
sitaution persist except that I can see th XP logo LED moving L to R then
black out and the monitor light from green to orange.
The card have the nornal blue port as well as the DVI port. Has it got
anything to do with the blbue port?

We just tried to change the graphic card (which we know it is working) but
the pc give us some beeping sound but when we put back the original card,
there is no beeping sound but still cant boot up.
Just trying other options before oing the repair installation. Will Fixboot
help? Please advice, thanks

well,

your cards may be in
excellent condition.

however, keep in mind
that these are advanced
components that are added
to a basic pc system.

the idea of "repair windows"
is based on simply getting
your windows to function
again with the pc system
at it's basic/default configuration.

your windows should become
functional again as long as
there are no unknown variables
added, like your cards.

after windows is functional,
then simply reinstall the cards
as if you had just bought them.

you can try the trick below and see
if it helps. but if it doesn't work then
it may not be worthwhile to spend
alot of time looking for a needle
in a haystack, when the windows
repair feature will automatically
correct the system..

the trick is: immediately after
select normal boot from the
boot menu, hold down the
shift key until you get to the
desktop.

the shift key will cancel out
any programs preloading that
may or may not be responsible
for the error you have. also, it
will take a bit longer to boot
so be patient and hold the key
down.
