XP pro error 711 and 126

L

L Williams

Can not Add a new connection for dialup. When I
click "Add" I get the error 711 and when following those
instructions I get the error 126. I can not find the
instructions for this error.

What can I do to solve the error 126 problem.
Thanks,
L Williams

Open a command prompt and type "sc queryex rasman" and "sc qc rasman" and
post the results here.

Hi Ken, I am having the same problem as L Williams except
in XP Home. I get error 711 and 193:0xc1. All the
dependencies for remote assess connection manager to
start are started (Telephony, Plug&Play, Remote Procedure
Call (RPC)). Lost all my dial up connections and can not
set up a new dial up because all items are dimmed in
Wizard. Also, my dialer (att&t) setup indicates no
modem. I uninstalled my modem and then rebooted. XP
recognized and reinstalled the modem, but dialer still
says no modem. Below are my "rasman" settings you
suggested posting for L. Williams.

sc queryex rasman
service_name: rasman
type: 20 win32_share_process
state : 1 stopped (not_stoppable, not_pausable,
ingnores_shutdown)
Win32_exit_code: 193 (0xc1)
service_exit_code: 0 (0x0)
checkpoint: 0 (0x0)
wait_hint: 0 (0x0)
PID: 0
Flags:

sc qc rasman
type: 20 win32_share_process
start_type: 3 demand start
error_control: 1 normal
binary_path_name: C:\winnt\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs
load_order_group:
tag: 0
display_name: Remote Access Connection Manager
dependencies: Tapisrv
Services_start_name: local system

You problem is likely different. Error 193 means corrupted file and
probably refers to "\windows\system32\rasmans.dll". You might try expanding
a copy off XP CD, and then reapplying SP1.

Keep this article in mind because the original XP rasmans.dll doesn't get
along with SP1's registry settings.
