How do I know if my computer's DVD-RW will record data DVDs for back-up? It
plays DVD movies, and has a number in the hardware config. but I don't know
what it does, or how to get it to work if it can be programmed.

Thank you.

Sorry - I have an HP Desk Top Business computer -- and on the DVD info it
reads

HARDWARE:

SAMSUNG SPO411N Disk Drives

HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4161B DVD/CD-R

NAME DVDRRW GWA-4161B

Does that help?

Any burning software ie; Nero, Ashampoo Burning Studio, Alcohol 120%
(for cd/dvd image-making), DVD-Cloner, AnyDVD, etc
go to "alt.cracks" ng

If your HP came with a DVD burner, I'm sure it also came with a disc
burning program such as Sonic RecordNow. Check your Programs folder.

If not or if you'd like to try a good free alternative, I can vouch for

You could download and install the following:

Description of the Image Mastering API v2.0 (IMAPIv2.0) update package
that is dated June 26, 2007
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=932716

The update will install DVD burning support for Windows XP using the
IMAPI engine.
