XP Pro "D" drive sometime missing

my XP Pro "D" HDD drive sometime not present but need reboot to come back, I
have C, D , E and F drives. Any hints as to what could be the cause of the
problem would be greatly appreciate. Thank you .

What exactly does "not present" mean?

What kind of drive is D (e.g. internal, external, optical, network)?

Also, it the D drive a separate physical drive or a partition in a physical drive?

"D" is a partition HDD drive and occasionally disappear when I click "My
Computer" , need to reboot pc.
