My Computer, Right Clicking <drive>letter not showing Context Menu

S

SAI

I'm running Windows XP Pro, SP2, IE7, NAV 2003 Prof Edition with latest
updates. I also ran NAV with latest updates and found NO VIRUS on the system.

There are a set of problems i'm facing and would like the forum to help me
resolve:

When I open My Computer by double clicking from the Desktop, my 4 drives
C/D/E/F are displayed in the right window pane.

1. Now when I try to open the D or E drives by double clicking the Drive
letters, i'm unable to open the drives. Whereas with the same procedure i'm
able to open the C and F drives by double clicking.

2. When I right click my D and E drives. I'm seeing that the Explore and
Search context menu items are missing and in that place I get to see some
junk characters displayed, and rest of the other context menu items are
displaying normally.

What could this problems be attributed for and how to resolve them?

PS: the above said problems was restricted to D drive until recently when E
drive started showing this symptoms.

I could resolve the above problem temporarily with
http://www.winhelponline.com/article...-Computer.html

But when I restart the system this problem reoccurs, so I need to rerun the
fixdrive.exe once again, then it works fine until I restart.

Try disabling Norton and see if that helps . Norton causes more
problems , itself .

1. Open My Computer - click Tools - Folder Options
2. Check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide Protected
Operating System Files"
3. Open D Drive.
4. Check if there is an Autorun.inf exist.
5. Select the file and delete it.
6. Do the same procedure for E drive as well.
7. Click Start - Run - type regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
8. Restart your PC and check if the problem get solved.

You should also scan your PC for Malware/Spyware infection. I will advise
you to check your Startup Programs using the following link:

Hope this help, let us know!

hello Raj,

Many thanks for the right advice. The problem resolved after i did what u
told me.

I also visited the link and checked it and beleive me its a great site, and
I downloaded those tools.

Infact I had been running virus scans for most part of y'day and today.
There were some viruses, adwares, cookies which were not detected by NAV but
when I ran the TrendMicro Online scanning, it showed those viruses and
deleted them.

Anyways thanks once again. I sincerely appreciate ur guidance.

Raj,

Forgot to mention that in the processes there is a process called "ctfmon",
and its location is C:\documents and settings\all
users\favorites\imjpmig.exe. When I did a search, one of the sites said it
should reside in C:\Windows\System32.

So I am at cross roads whether its a correct process or not. Can u guide me
correctly?

I Googled for imjpmig.exe and found that the file is concerned to Microsoft
Office. Used to Asian Language input or Language Bar or Speech Recognisation.
It seems to be very interesting that in different folders the file has
different level of dangerous like if it resist in Windows Subfolder then 9%
danguerous and if in Program Files then 16%.

However, in your case, it is under Favorite folder and it seems to be a fake
or tricked process as there should be no .exeutable file in Favorite folder.
So, I will advise you better to delete it and don't by mistake double-click
on those kind of files.
Even, if you delete this file there will be no harmful effects.

Hope this help, let us know!

Yes, thats why I was confused whether the one residing in the folder path i
mentioned was a genuine or not. I checked the properties of the said file and
it showed so many folder tabs in the properties window. They are as follows:
General, Program, Font, Memory,Compatibility,Misc, and Screen.

What was interesting here is in the MISC folder tab, it has Windows Shortcut
Keys checked(tick mark), such as Alt+Tab,Ctrl+Esc, Alt+Prtsc, Alt+Space,
Alt+Esc Alt+Enter, Prtsc.
So I guess this imjpimg.exe gets executed whenever I press one of the
shortcut keys sequence while browsing or using while working.

Just sharing my thoughts. Thanks for the help.
