I switched on last week and my computer screen flashed a couple of times and went black. It seems to attempt to start when I switch on the blue welcome sign flashes on and then back to black screen with only the mouse arrow displayed (not locked). I have tried to use the f8 procedure to get the safe mode screen and the screen with all options comes up but none of the available options does anything.I do get the heading at the top and bottom of screen stating safe mode but nothing else.I have unplugged ,switched on and off continuously and still nothing. The XP disk does not boot or do anything. Can you suggest any other things to try, other than take it to the repair centre.,allready been cleaned out this year.Thanks..Paul

Have you been to the bios screen and switched it to boot from the cd drive so you can boot off the windows cd?

Thank you but yes I've tried that ,in fact went through the whole bios list reversed positions and back..Still nothing

in the bios set the first boot option to boot from cd.
then you have to watch the screen and when it asks "press
any key to boot from cd", you must press a key.

.
If I boot off the cd, Can i still read the data on the
hard drive? I need to back up the data on the hard drive
before I reload the system.

no, you won't be able to back up any data from the cd.
its to late now to think of backups!
