XP Pro boot problems

As soon as the Win XP pro splash screen comes up, it runs checkdisk,
reboots and starts with the "windows registry recovery" message that
says"One of the files containing the System's Registry had to be
recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was
successful". It doesn't stay recovered though. The event log entry
follows below this message. Other times, I get the blue screen
"Registry cannot load the hive file, systemroot/system 32 config or it's
log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable STOP C0000218
registry file failure". Other times, I get the black screen, but it
will not start normal, last known good, or safe. I have symantec goback
installed and sometimes I can use it to start when it will not start any
other way. Goback is supposed to revert the HD back to when it was
working, and it does, but the fix does not stay fixed. At next boot, it
may start normally or any of the previously mentioned boot problems may
occur. After it boots, everything works o.k.

Thanks, but I'm not installing and the computer is new and worked well
for two weeks. I saw this article before and decided that it didn't
apply to my problem. I'm convinced that the registry has problems, but
can't see why goback can only temporarily fix it. It is an OEM version
and I am trying not to have to start over installing everything after
using the restore disk. I appreciate your try. Thank you.
