XP-Pro Backup ASR disk on non-floppy system????

In order to do a full system backup and restore one needs to make an
ASR floppy. But I don't have a floppy drive anymore, so How can I use
the XP backup system to back up and restore it if disaster happens.
I plan on backing up to an external hard drive and this seems
straight-forward. But the ASR floppy is the killer. How do I set it up
to use a CDR or an ISO image for a CD as the target?

You could purchase a FDD for around $15.00, other options are an imaging
program such as Symantec's Norton Ghost or Terrabyte Unlimited's Bootitng,
both work nicely.

Nowhere to connect a Floppy drive...
This is a DELL DIMENSION 9100, which has only SATA hdd and IDE for the
CDR:s...

I have Ghost already, but I don't want to completely image the whole
disk (too much data) just back up and restore my Windows
installation...
And I want to be able to selectively restore only certain files from a
backup set. This worked fine when I was running BackupExec using a
tape drive, but nowadays the expålosion in hdd capacity has blown away
my possibilities of using tape drive storage. And the only time I
really needed to restore my old PC from the tape it did not work...
:-(

If you want a floppy drive, purchase an external one that connects via
usb. I'm not familiar with the latest versions of Ghost, but Acronis
True Image will do various imaging and backups the way you want. I
would store your images and backups on a second hard drive, internal or
external - it doesn't matter. Another excellent and reasonably priced
backup (not imaging) program is Second Copy from www.centered.com.

So basically if you insist on using the built-in Windows functions, buy
an external floppy drive.

Well why not partition your HDD - have windows and programs on C: this
will cut down on the size of the image.

Been there done that. That NT Backup will not work. It will back up
perfectly to an external drive. Then when one goes to restore the
floppy
will not recognize any of the external devices. I had to invest in
Drive
Image 7. (a while ago). Now there are several available. Pick one.
