I have two computers networked together and the xp pro sp2 can look at files
on xp home, but when i try to look at files from the xp home, it asks for a
user name and password. I did not set up a user name or password and I
cannot find a place to do so. Any ideas?

You have a user name & password even if you don't know it - even if it's
username/blank, whatnot. I suggest you do set a password - and create a
username/password on each computer that matches the one on the other.

Go to Start>run and type

secpol.msc
in the left hand pane select Security Options then find "Accounts:\ Guest
account status". Choose Enable.

I tried this and now I get a message: Not accessible. you might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions.
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at
this computer.
Anything else?

With the Guest Account Enabled

start> run and type

secpol.msc

now fine "Network Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts"
and select "Guest Only -...."

yes, with the guest account enabled. I have tried to set up a password, and
cannot do that either.

Please explain how to set up a password. I have set the password as the
administrator, but that password will not work when I try to use the
network. The more I try the more I get confused.
