I would say simply try it - maybe I'm lucky but I have never had any
problems using the same hard drive (ghosted many times) on new motherboards
/ cpu's. I have always been impressed at how Windows loads in new drivers
and adapts to new hardware - it may ask for the original Windows disk to get
drivers from.
Activation is a different issue - you may need to re-activate Windows with
MS but peeps seem to have no problem doing this.

After you do a repair install, you'll probably have to call Microsoft and
get a new key. Just tell them it's a hardware upgrade. It's painless,
really.

Have just determined that my XP Pro is an OEM as apposed to a retail
version. Will that still be ok to transfer to a new mobo?

Technically yes, officially not really, as MS might consider the Mobo
the fixed part of the system the OS is licensed for.

You MUST reformat the hardrive that XP is on and do a fresh install of XP
whenever you change the motherboard. Otherwise you'll experience ongoing
nasty Registry errors.

This is not my experience and I'm often not in a position to be able
to clean re-install systems after motherboard changes.

And if it has more than 120 days since you activated XP, you can do it over
the internet, just like you did last time.

I'm happy to reformat and re-install XP after changing the mobo...so with
the OEM XP Pro that I have, and its more than 120 days since I installed the
software, you think I'll have no bother?...I'd hate to find it won't load
after expense of upgrading with new mobo, processor memory etc?
Thanks.

Hey, careful with the "MUST"s - this might be the easiest way, but its
certainly possible to keep an existing installation if you know what
you're doing.
