XP & Private Folder problem

Tim

Hi there,

XP Pro, somehow someone has made My Documents a Private Folder and we
therefore cannot share it on our small network.

When we go into My Docs Properties the Make this Folder Private is ticked
but greyed out how can we untick it?

Many thanks, Tim.

Hi, if it's greyed out it's probably inheriting the permission from a parent
folder.
This should be the root of the drive which should not be set as private so
I'm not sure what's going on.

One way around this is to remove "Simple file sharing" and share the folder
from the sharing tab. To achieve this go to "My computer", click "Tools" on
the toolbar, cick "Folder options", click the "View" tab and remove the tick
from "Use simple file sharing". It's the last option in Advanced Settings. Go
back to the Properties of "My Docs" and you will find the "Sharing Tab". You
can also set permissions for different users on this tab or give everyone
"Full Control".

I hope this helps.
