XP Password issue

I have a wireless setup. I am the administrator. On my remote laptop I
changed my password for windows logon. Unfortunately, it allowed me to type
in a very long password TWICE, then set the hint. When I logged on the next
time, I typed in the long password, but only 12 balls (characters) show up,
and I cannot log on. I know the password, but apparently it is too long, and
after those 12 letters nothing else can be entered. Please help. I tried
changing it from the host computer, but it didn't even know I had a password

try starting in Safe Mode, then, instead of logging on to your account, log
on to the Admin account. From there, go to user accounts, select your
account and change your password to a new, shorter one.
