XP-OS Problem renaming Hard disk

W

William

Newbie here,
Just installed a secondary hard drive. I have 2 CD ROM
Drives. System is showing (C:) as the Primary harddrive;
(D:F:) as the secondary hard drive; (D:) as Primary CD
ROM; and, (E:) as secondary CD ROM Drive.

It will not let me change the Secondary Hard Drive (D:F:)
to plain ole (D:). No matter what I key in for a rename,
it puts the F: on the end of it. Example: If I were to
name it (George), it would put (George:F:). Why?

I have disconnected my ROM drives and secondary hard
drive; I have deleted them and rebooted. I don't know
what else to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
William

There's a distinction between HD letters and names. You can give them names,
but that won't change their drive letters....

To change drive letters, open Disk Management, change sec. CD-ROM to f.ex.
H: (CD in drive), pri. CD-ROM to G: (CD in drive), sec. HD to D: , then
change CD-ROMs to desired letters (E. & F ?)
