I have XP on my desktop, and Me on my laptop. I would
like to sync them by puting XP on my laptop also. Am I
supposed to buy a second copy of XP (in which case I will
do without) or can I - legally and physically - install
on my laptop the XP that I already have? (I am the only
user of each computer; I am not trying to give free
software to another person.)

Thanks

You have to buy another license to stay in compliance with the ms eula. One
license/copy of xp on one computer.

You have to buy a second copy. Windows for more than ten years has been
supplied under license to a single machine per copy. Now Microsoft have
taken steps to bring this forcibly to your attention through the
activation system

You really only need to buy a second XP license. Microsoft sells them
directly.

Yes, but comment in this group indicates that buying a disk at retail
can be cheaper than buying an extra license from Microsoft.
