trying to get multiple monitor support working under Windows XP Profesional.
video card is GeForce4 MX 440 (64 MB). card has 2 ports, VGA and DVI-I
main monitor is Dell M992.
nVidia driver is at 53.03, the latest.
M992 was originally attached to VGA port on video card and worked fine.
moved M992 to DVI-I port (using DVI-I to VGA adapter) and everything
still worked as expected.
hooked up an old NEC Multisync 3D monitor to the VGA port.
when i boot up i see the BIOS boot-up stuff on both monitors so i know the
signal is reaching the NEC. next the XP splash screen shows up on both
monitors. then the main display goes blank for a second (changing
resolution, refresh rate, etc.??) and then displays the desktop. however
the
NEC monitor never comes out of the blank state.
if i go into Display Properties --> Settings i only see the M992 listed.
there is
no drop down list presented.
Device Manager also shows only the Dell under Monitors.
i've tried setting the adapter to a 800 x 600, 16-bit, 60Hz state under the
premise
that maybe it was too high as a default state (before i could get in and
tweak the settings for
each monitor).
any suggestions?
the NEC is ancient (~1990) so it is not plug & play compatible. is this a
requirement
for multiple monitor support?
thanks!
