XP menus

My computer had a virus, Sasser, But I believe is taken care of. But
whenever a menu comes up it disappears in about 4 seconds. No chance to read
it or react.
I have uninstalled Norton AV 2003 and tried to reinstall it. It locks up
while setting up config. (9seconds left) Then it says it is finished but
won't run.
This is on a desktop with XP home. Please Help

Run an online virus scan to be sure it is gone.
