I have 2 xp pro sp1 boxes, both with the same 2 512 Meg mem each. Why does
1 report 993Meg and the other
1064 KB in my computer properties? Same mem and programs on each.

Thanks

First, please verify those numbers. Are you sure it's not 992MB (not 993)
and 1024 (not 1064) MB (not KB).

Assuming that it's 992MB and 1024MB, the reason is that instead of having a
separate video card, the computer showing 992MB has a motherboard that
includes on-board video support. Since there's no separate video card
with its own RAM, it takes part of the system RAM (in this case 32MB) for
that purpose.

This is a very common situation, particularly on less expensive starter
computers. Nothing is wrong.

You are correct, good catch

And how would Linux change the fact the onboard video has to use some of the
system RAM?
