XP media edition (disable media??)

Is it easily possible to disable, (or not use) the media facilities of
XP media edition?
A friend may purchase a machine but does not want to use it as a
multimedia machine - no tv etc, (I dont think it has a tv card anyway)

What I dont know is - what is it about this edition which makes it
different to ordinary XP, and can it be used with all the xp functions
ordinarily or do a lot of media things keep coming up?

Media center Edition is a superset of Windows XP Professional. It has
everything in XP Professional (except the ability to join a domain)
plus its extra media-related features. If you don't want to use those
extra features, simply don't use them.
