XP Media edition & TV Tuner Cards

My new laptop came with XP Media Edition SP2 installed. I'd like to
take advantage of it by installing a TV Tuner Card. Unfortunately, the
laptop does not support PCMCIA. It does support USB, 1394 (Is that
Firewire?) and ExpressCard/54.

HP offers an Expresscard TV Tuner for $180, but I don't want to spend
that much. Are there other less expensive products that use one of the
other ports that work well with Media edition?

.....And while I'm on the topic of Media Edition, how does it differ from
XP Pro SP2, which is what I was running on my desktop?

Thanks!

Hi I can only tell you about the diferences. It is exactly the same as XP Pro
with the added feature of media center. So you can have it in two modes
either XP or media center. When it's in Media Center it is basically a really
posh TV. With the abilty to watch and record Live Digital TV(depending on
your tuner card) Listen to and record Live Digital Radio, view pictures,
listen to you audio collection, browse the Web(you need a plugin). That's the
bones of it, it does a bit more but not much. It's really cool if like me you
have it plugged into your TV. but on my other comp I hardly use it, so It's
what do you want it for? It's probably not worth it for your laptop because
the sound wont be that good but for your desktop? Possibly but it really is
more for plugging into your TV. Unless of course your Monitor or Laptop
screen are 26"+
Hope this helps and that I havn't upset any Media Edition purists.
You could post there to see what there reaction would be.
Cheers.

Hello,

You can install a USB TV Tuner card. One such TV tuner card is offered by
Hauppage:

WinTV PVR USB2
http://www.hauppage.com/pages/products/data_pvrusb2.html

Windows XP MCE has all the features of Windows XP Professional except the
capability of joining a domain and inability to cache credentials. You would
not need these features if you are using your machine in a home environment.
