xp login to win 2k domain very slow

Hello everyone,
I am pretty new to the server side of windows OS's. I have just setup a
window 2k domain controller. When I go to login to the domain with a
windows xp pro workstation and a new user account it takes almost an
hour! After that it only takes a few minutes. I know initially it has
to download all of the settings, etc. But an hour is ridicuolous. Does
anyone have any suggestions please?

Check your dns settings. The server should look to itself for dns with
forwarding zones set up. The workstations should look to the server for
dns with separate Internet gateways if appropriate. You haven't given
enough information to get a specific answer. However, I would suggest
that you post in the general server group, here:

microsoft.public.windows.server.general
