Login is very slow

My computer is a Windows XP, Pentium II, 400 MHz system. It worked very
fast until a couple of days ago when it became very slow and would take
atleast a half hour to login completely. Even XP functions are slow.
The computer is hooked up to a domain as part of the university
network. If anyone has any ideas, please suggest. I have run the basic
diagnostics like spyware, virus scan, defragmenting, etc. Thank you

I would try entering msconfig in the start -> run box and disable all of the
startup programs under the Startup tab. Then reboot.

If that doesn't help, try disabling or uninstalling your virus scanner -
especially if it is Norton Antivirus.

Make sure your DNS is set correctly. Incorrect DNS settings will cause slow
logins as well as any network aware application to slow down.
