I have Gateway computer, 500MHz P3 that came ready for
98, or NT. I upgraded it to XP and it randomly locks up
on boot. Typically when the desktop is just being
rendered the cursor will hang and the system is frozen.
Rebooting may or may not get you in. There is no
ethernet card, there is a video adapter and PCI Promise
IDE controller. Any suggestions?

THanks...

Update the BIOS and all drivers for the machine so that they are XP
compatible. Also, use msconfig to troubleshoot the applications and see if
one of them is causing your problems:
