Windows XP install Dell Dimension 4100 (i815 chipset) lock up

Can't get past GUI install if I move the mouse. System locks up.
Freezes. Flashed BIOS from A06 to A11, no go. Able to install Win 98,
Slackware no problem. Was running WinME before I tried to upgrade to XP.
All internal devices unplugged except PCI video card. Ran memtest on
PC133 128mb stick, no problem. Swapped hard drives, ran XP install again
(Home and Professional) locked up just the same. Swapped mouse and
keyboard. Moved PCI video card to second slot. Still no go.

I've read elsewhere of Dell Dimension 4100 owners upgrading to XP, but
in this case the only problematic variable is XP... any ideas?

Open your BIOS and set the mouse and keyboard
to Legacy Mode. Alternatively, use a PS/2 adapter
for your USB mouse connection during installation.

Checked for that but didn't see an option. Disabled Quiet Boot and saw
that Legacy Mouse and Keyboard were detected. Mouse and keyboard are
both PS/2, may buy USB mouse/keyboard to test. Trying Win2000 install
just now...

With Win98 or W2k running, put the XP cd in and at the splash screen choose
the upgrad advisor from the other tasks and let the advisor detect issues
that will prevent XP from installing correctly. Resolve any issues.

Microsoft PSS will support you for all installation problems as long as it
is a retail version of XP. Call the number in the folder with your XP cd.

That fixed it. Turns out it was the old video card I was using (Alliance
Semiconductor Corporation ProVideo 6424 chipset). Thanks for the tip.
