I am running a legitimate verified copy of xp. I have to replace my hard
disk. Can I install 'my' copy of xp on my new disk?

Yes.
Attempt internet activation.
If that fails, call Microsoft at the displayed number for your region.
Usually done in less than 10 minutes.

If you need to replace the disk because of a "lack" of free space, you
can locate a "disk cloning" utility which will copy you entire
contents for the "old" drive to your new one.
