XP Key

You have wasted everyone's time. You asked a question. Got answers
that you didn't like and then complained to people about their
responses. No one owes you anything. You received help, just not what
you wanted. The bottom line is you messed up. Quite sniveling and move on.

John,

The key "was" on the machine, not in a recognizable form, but obviously on
there. Your attempt to re-install XP probably wiped whatever was there in
preparation to receive the key you would have entered, if you had it.

Back to square 1. It looks like you're stuck.

I gave no one shit. I simply stated that I was not looking for
sympathy but a solution.

If you followed the thread you will see that I did a heck of a lot of
research before posting. I am not into wasting other peoples time in
looking for answers for me. I am also not vain enough to believe that
I can find all of the answers.

The reply I got (that we are posting about now) offered no help. Much
like yours. I am not sure why posts that don't offer help are given
but I have politely appreciated all of the input I have recieved.

If I sound "to the point" it is simply because I don't view the
newsgroups as a place to waste my time or the time of others.
If someone can't offer help I am not certain why they would waste
there time replying, especially in a snide manner, except to make a
person feel worse about the situation they are asking for help on.

Newsgroups are 'communities' with a more diverse population than you will
find anywhere on this planet. No citizenship or membership required. Anyone
in the world is able and welcome to post or respond to any message here. It
can be a tough place for even the strongest of characters. All things
considered, it works very well.

There IS no solution. You know what you have to do.

John;
There is no known solution to this problem.
The solutions you already know of work only if you can boot to
Windows.
Additionally even if the key was available, it is probably gone when
reinstallation started.

The only thing I can suggest is hindsight.
Keep the CD and Product Key safe but near the computer at all times.
You never know when you will need it.

You have 2 options:
1. Buy another
2. Wait till you can use the one you already have.

Thanks for the reminder Jupiter, I've yet to burn a copy of my new XP CD and
stash the key in my usual 4-5 places. That includes, on the computer case.
(just built a new one)

Cheers, JAX

There is now at least one known solution to this problem.
I somehow doubt that I am the first one to discover this.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

Problem solved.

As I had indicated in my first post I had a back up of the registry.
The hardest part was remembering the administrator password from when
I set up my computer. I restored it as per the instructions on the
page linked.

I opened Aida and there was my key.

Tenacity pays off.
