Hold down the [window] key and press [Pause/Break]

click on the [advance] tab
click on “settings” in [Startup and Recovery] and un-tick “automatic restart”

... then let us know what the exact error message is.

Glad you got the HD sorted. ;)

I am getting more errors:

I have n't had the one listed earlier for a littl ewhile now. I removed the CD burning software and the graphics card ATI software for the control planel.

Now I am getting

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT 0x0000004E

and

BAD_POOL_CALLER
0x000000c2

this only happens the very first time the computer is switched on and after reboot does not occur until the next time the computer is powered down and switched back on later.

Any ideas.

Windows website points to the graphics card (i think) but how can i test this as I don't think it will work if I disable the driver, will it?

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT 0x0000004E
This error is typically caused by drivers passing bad memory descriptor lists.

The Stop 0xC2 message indicates that a kernel-mode process or driver incorrectly attempted to perform memory operations.

A Stop 0xC2 message might occur after installing a faulty device driver, system service, or firmware. If a Stop message lists a driver by name, disable, remove, or roll back the driver to correct the problem. If disabling or removing drivers resolves the issues, contact the manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially important for multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools.
Windows website points to the graphics card (i think) but how can i test this as I don't think it will work if I disable the driver, will it?
You cannot "disable" the driver but you can "rollback" to the previous driver. You can uninstall the drivers and reboot and XP will attempt to install its own.

You are sure you have the correct drivers?

Still no luck.

I am still getting error messages the first time I switch on the computer and never thereafter.

I have tried deleting the drivers for hardware, including removing the hardware. It just keeps doing it.

I have update my bious as well.

Could it be MS Ofice 2000 thats causing it?

I really don't know. Anyone has this experience?

SOLUTION

I have got the solution to this probelm.

It ended up being a dodgy RAM chip.

the only way I found out was getting a friend who has spare parts to swap things one at a time.

thought I would share this with you incase anyone else is having a similar or problem.

:D
