xp keeps rebooting

I have 2 pc's at home both running xp, recenlty one of the
pc's has decided to start rebooting giving error messages
about hard drive consistency check. After much trouble
shooting I decided to get a new hard disk. The hard disk
is installed and running fine. Now again I get my pc
constantly rebooting every 20 minutes or so. I can boot
the pc in safe mode and occasionally the pc will reboot
normally. What I have observed is that if I turn off the
pc for a few hours and then start it up again everything
will run fine, give it a couple more hours and then the pc
starts rebooting again and I am constantly going through
this all the time, any ideas.

Perhaps your memory (RAM) is only working with marginal reliability.

if the system does run fine after it is shut down for a while, it has to do with the system gettting overheated, try keeping the tower open and try to keep it cool, also try disabling the option 'Automatically Restart' located under Start-->Run->SYSDM.CPL->Advanced->Startup and Recovery->Settings.

I don't know how much of this thread is missing but this sounds like a heat
problem. If it hasn't already been suggested, are all fans working ok? No
dust?
