xp, internet, IEEE 1394 Card

I have an XP machine connected to a hub which is
connected to a cable modem. Everything functioned fine
until I installed a 1394 Firewire card. I can still
browse the other computers on my network, and they can
access the internet. The XP machine with the new 1394
card cannot access the internet. I have loaded SP1 and
all other driver upgrades.

XP considers a 1394 card to be a networking device. Open the Network
Connections folder and see if there's a network bridge between the
first NIC and the 1394 card. If there is, right click and delete the
bridge.

If that doesn't solve the problem, see if the 1394 connection has a
default gateway specified: right click it and click Status | Support |
Details. If it does, remove the default gateway from that connection.
