xp installion problems

I tried to install windows xp and after it is done
installing I get error like folders and files missing or
corrupted, memory error so I tried reinstalling it and
this time I got a little further and I tried to do a
windows updated and nothing would update all updates
failed
so I bought a new hard drive because one error said hard
drive might be corrupted and I tried to do a recovery
with the cd that I got with my computer when I bought it
and that was windows ME and I still get the errors and
windows ME I get registry error also
I have no idea what could be wrong

well the first problem is windows 'me''. try a clean
install of xp and there should be no errors because of 'me'

upgrade advisor to make sure your system can handle XP?
