installing xp problems

I tried to install windows xp and after it is done
installing I get error like folders and files missing or
corrupted, memory error so I tried reinstalling it and
this time I got a little further and I tried to do a
windows updated and nothing would update all updates
failed
so I bought a new hard drive because one error said hard
drive might be corrupted and I tried to do a recovery
with the cd that I got with my computer when I bought it
and that was windows ME and I still get the errors and
windows ME I get registry error also
I have no idea what could be wrong

Todd, check your Ram. If you have more than one module then try
removing one, try the recovery and if
that doesnt work then try the other.

thanks i tried that and i still get the same error i even
bought new ram
