I'm sorry, let rephrase my statement. How do I get XP
upgrade to recognize windows 98 during installation if it
won't recognize it or the installation disk provided by
the machine's manufacturer?? The disk is compressed with a
self extrator and I currently have windows 98 on my
computer, I'm just trying to upgrade.

It sounds like something about your current Windows installation is corrupt.
Are you prepared to lose everything on your disk? Or can you back all of
your important documents up to floppy or CD? If so, then I would recommend
booting from the XP disk, and then borrowing a friend's 98/ME/2000 disk to
'show' XP when it tries to install.

Once you are into the set up, choose to delete your partition in Advanced
mode, then choose to set up Windows in the same partition again.

PS. If you use Outlook/Outlook Express, and want to keep all of your email,
make sure you find a way to back them up before trying this route.
