XP installation over ME

While attempting to install a recently purchased
registered home version of XP onto a desktop PC running ME
(I've found ME to be quite buggy) I received the following
message immediately after booting up from the CD:

Line 12186 of the INF file \:386\txtsetup.sif is invalid

Please help
 
Your best bet is to save your data files to another disk and format / clean
install WinXP on the drive.
