I recent purchased XP Home Edition, but when I try and
install in on new computer the following message comes up.

Line 14881 of the INF file\i386\txtsetup.sif is invalid.

Needless to say this is very frustrating, can some one
help.

Thanks

Are you doing an upgrade or clean installation? Previous cases with this
error typically were resolved by updating the BIOS and drivers for the
machine prior to upgrade, thus allowing the upgrade to complete. You did
not say what kind of machine you are installing this on, is it XP
compatible?

Joseph:
The machine is XP compatable. I only upgraded the BIOS so
that it would boot from the CD drive rather than the hard
drive. I took the machine back to the store along with
the CD. They managed to get it loaded supposedly using
the same XP CD, but a different CD drive. The tech told
me that my CD drive was bad, but when I got home I loaded
Office for XP using the CD drive. Do you think the XP cd
is bad or is it my CD drive? Is there a way that I can
check either the CD or the cd drive? I'm concerned that
at some point in the future I might have to base line my
computer and not be able to load XP, because the cd is
bad.

Thanks
Zaphod
