I am trying to install Windows XP Home on a newly built computerfrom OEM
disc. CD set as first boot in bios and receiving the following:-
line 9598 of .inf file\i386\txtsetup.sif is invalid
or it may go to blue screen wth windows setup and hang, with no on screen
options :- ie press enter to contine or even F8 to agree with licence
agreeement.
Any ideas or suggestioons?

Hi,

You can't install a newly bulit PC with an OEM Disc. That's not possible.
You should buy an Original Microsoft Windows XP. Contact Microsoft.

Hi Wolla,
Thanks for your comments. However, I thought purchasing a Genuine OEM dics
would still allow the installation?

That is incorrect. OEM disks are specifically intended for use on
new computers.

Perhaps you were thinking of "branded" OEM disks from a computer
manufacturer. Most of these use the SLP (BIOS Locked) procedure which
effectively limits them to being used only on computers from that
specific manufacturer.

Try disconnecting all unnecessary peripherals from the computer
(printers, scanners, web cams, etc) and especially any USB "thumb
drives".

Is your Windows XP a generic OEM version from Microsoft or is it one
with the name and logo of a computer manufacturer/assembler on it?

When you boot from the CD on the first menu choose the R option for
Repair (Recovery Console). When it has finished booting to the
Recovery Console enter the following command:

CHKDSK C: /R

to see if there are any problems with the hard drive.

Good luck

This does sound a lot like like a bad disc. Probably been 'doctored' by the
OEM, and (surprise) not been tested very thoroughly as they don't use it to
do their own rollouts anyway, they probably use Ghost or Sysprep.

However you could try booting from a DOS CD or floppy with CD-drive support,
then put the OEM CD in, and try:

d: (CD Drive)
cd \i386
winnt

Thanks for all the help so far. However still no progress. I have been trying
the Gigabyte mobo site for other uses' bios problems. It would appear that
the hard drive is recognised in the bios OK, but notthing at windows setup.
Is it possible, or worth the trouble, to put my HDD into another computer and
run windows set-up and partion the disk then replace this back into my new
computer?
